Ok – so I posted my Vegan Whole Turkey (seen above) – and the vegans on Facebook lost their collective shit.  Despite knowing it was a vegan item – I got blocked & banned & verbally assaulted SAVAGELY.  This video below is my response to the “You are not the right kind of vegan” attacks I got from the most self-righteous douchebags ever.  I also show you how I reinvented a bunch of random leftovers into and epic Shepherd’s Pie.

Below the video here are the 14 recipes I suggest as potential uses for your holiday leftovers.

  1. Hahaha! You make me laugh. I too get VERY tired of the “militant vegans.” I’ve been vegan for over ten years, for health reasons. I was cornered at work one day, by another vegan whom I’d never met before. She backed me into a corner and quizzed me for twenty minutes, wanting to know just how vegan I was. She then pronounced me a non-vegan, but a plant based eater because I had on leather shoes. She was very proud that she was much more vegan than me. It was critical to her to put me in a box with a label. Yikes!

I LOVE your recipes. I use them at least once a week. I had your korean ribs again last night and couldn’t stop licking the sauce up. You’ve made me a huge seitan fan. Thanks for your rant. It made me laugh the whole time. I couldn’t agree more!

  2. I am so sorry this happened to you. These people are missing the whole point and the big picture, which is not eating animals and animal products! I am so distressed that it is so easy to hide behind the shroud of anonymity on the internet and attack people. It is so very wrong.

I want to again thank you for your delicious recipes. Thanks to people like you, it is easier than ever to be vegan or even part- time vegan (which is still good!). Not everyone has the talent to create a recipe and it would be tough to stick with it if the food was tasteless and boring. Thanks for the time you put into creating your dishes, writing your blog and recording your videos. You are appreciated more than you know!

  3. Years ago,I gave up beef, and then pork, for my health. Eventually, my concern and curiosity about my kids becoming vegetarian while away at school, led to my understanding that the human body can be healthy without eating the bodies of other animals. I purposely watched videos of factory farms to strengthen my resolve to learn more about how to eat. I learned of the horrific conditions that dairy cows suffer, so I searched for, and watched a video of calves being taken from their mother. I gave up dairy. Cheese had become a staple of my diet, so this was a huge change. At first I didn’t do so well, I felt tired, and then sick, so I worked worked harder toward learning how to get the protein that I needed. I still feel like I gave up dairy, but all that I have to do is think of those videos, and I don’t give in to the craving. Emotions are tangled up in how we eat. Eating is a social activity, and sometimes if I don’t eat what others are offering, I am questioned. There are few remarks, and none of them are offensive, but it is hard to come away from those interactions without feeling that my actions are a judgement call, because they are. Sometimes I feel that the people who ask why I’m not eating a particular dish, are being rude, but they’re not. It is a moment of awkward emotional separation, we have both come to a point of mute. My personal judgement call, perhaps makes people uncomfortable. Mind reading would help. At times like that, I feel compelled to explain myself, or say something to put the quiet at ease.I never know what to say that does not feel like an apology. I am not going to apologize, but I am also, not going to preach. The hard row to hoe, is not giving up eating the bodies of animals, the hard row to hoe is learning how to eat again. People like you, who offer a variety of options, including faux foods, help make that learning process, healthy. Thank you, from the bottom of my belly and my heart.

  4. Seriously, f**k militant vegans, we’re all part of the same movement.. in fact I’m sure that confidently going about your business and knowing your s**t whilst not forcing it down other people’s throat (carnists especially) inspires a lot more interest in veganism than these psycho militants who attack everyone about everything, just to what? award themselves their invisible vegan medals? These people are clearly the types you find in all walks of life who are just unhappy and want to fight everything, they need to grow up and see the bigger picture. Please don’t be obnoxious vegans y’all, you’re making us look like dicks. Peace x
